Our Department

Welcome to the Cheektowaga Police Department’s Web Site.  We are proud to be a New York State Accredited Agency.   The Town of Cheektowaga Police Department was established in 1932 to serve and protect the community.  It has evolved from a department of eleven, to today’s 130 sworn officers who respond to over 50,000 calls for service annually; making it one of the busiest town agencies in New York State.  The Town is approximately 30 square miles, with a population of nearly 80,000 residents which can increase to over 200,000 during the day, due to our large retail, transportation and commercial areas.

Our Police Department takes a proactive approach to addressing the needs of the Town’s citizens; from crime to quality of life issues.  This is evident daily, from foot patrols to bicycle and segway units, to our Crime Resistance Bureau.  Chief of Police David Zack leads by example; and the entire Department prides itself on dedication to excellence.  The members of the Cheektowaga Police department adhere to the Department’s Core Values of Honesty, Integrity, Discipline and Respect.  We are,

“Proud to Serve, Because We Care.”

Please enjoy our web site, which can acquaint you with each division of the Department and its primary functions.  Also, you can find us on Facebook.

Departmental Mission

The Cheektowaga Police Department exists to protect life and property, enforce all laws, prevent and detect crime, and provide emergency response services within the Town of Cheektowaga. We interact with and educate the community in matters of public and personal safety. All members of the Department will provide the highest level of service and carry out their responsibilities so as to exhibit courtesy, diligence and integrity. We will be assertive, impartial and protect the constitutional rights of all people.

Core Values

The Cheektowaga Police Department prides itself on its professionalism and dedication to duty. To remind sworn personnel of their obligation to uphold the oath taken upon hire, the Department put forth its Core Values of Honor, Integrity, Discipline, and Respect. Members are all given a copy of the values to carry with them as a constant reminder of the values they live each day as Cheektowaga Police officers. The values are as follows:

Honor holds the core values together. Honor means living up to the oath taken upon hire. It means understanding what’s right, and taking pride in the community’s acknowledgement of that reputation. Be true to your promises, and live the core values in everything you do. Honor creates a bond of trust among members of the department and shows the strength of will to live according to our values even when temptation is there to do otherwise.

Integrity is the willingness to do what’s right, even when no one is looking. A person of integrity has the moral courage to do what’s right, even if the personal cost is high. Be honest: we don’t lie; we make our word our bond. A person of integrity is responsible; acting according to the requirements of their duty, and accountable for their actions. There is no separation from professional to personal life, the standard remains the same.

Discipline is our obligation to exercise control over ourselves in all aspects of life. Avoid public displays of anger, discouragement, frustration and any action that would bring discredit. Maintain high standards physically and mentally. It takes discipline to strive for the excellence that is a hallmark of this department every day.

Respect for self, respect for others. Recognizing our authority, rely on the golden rule: treat others as we would like to be treated. Recognize that respect will not be given to us unless we show it to others and to ourselves. How we treat others reflects upon each of us, both personally and as a professional organization.

CPDNY Tips App for iPhone

The Cheektowaga Police Department is launching CPDNY Tips iPhone and Droid app that enables the public to send anonymous tips to the police and lets the police respond back, creating a two way anonymous "chat".

Developed by CitizenObserver, a St. Paul MN company, CPDNY Tips puts a powerful new crime fighting tool into the hands of our community for all ages and demographics. It is 100% anonymous. CitizenObserver's technology removes all identifying information before the police department see's it so there's no way to identify the sender.

The App can be downloaded by visiting the iTunes Store or Google Play Store, or by clicking below
