The tax office is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except legal holidays.  Staff is available during these hours to answer your questions relative to:

• Tax amounts on properties in the Town
• Proper ID of properties in the Town
• Amounts due/past due on taxes for the Town of Cheektowaga, and the following school districts Cheektowaga Central, Maryvale, Cleveland Hill, Depew, Sloan, Lancaster, West Seneca & Williamsville.

Tax Payments Due Dates:
      Town & County Taxes, February 15, 2012 without penalty.
      School Taxes, October 15, 2012 without penalty. 

After the due dates, penalties are assessed according to Erie County Tax Act and NYS Real Property Tax Law Sec 925.  There is no provision for the waiver of penalties.  The penalty schedule is located on the front of the tax bills.
In the event that a check is returned by the bank, for whatever reason, the payment date of the account may be affected and penalties also may be applied.

PARTIAL PAYMENT OF TAXES
The Town of Cheektowaga Tax Receiver was instrumental in augmenting legislation to allow taxpayers to make partial payments on their tax bill.  It is important that the taxpayer understand the rules for making such payments:

• there must be no prior year tax due on the property
• penalties for late payment will be assessed according to the late payment schedule
• making a partial payment on or before the due date does not stop penalities from being added to the balance,
• taxpayers are urged to contact the Tax Office before making any partial payments.

Special  Evening Hours
     Town & County Taxes, February 15, 2012 9:00 am to 9:00 pm without penalty.
     School Taxes, October 15, 2012 9:00am to 9:00 pm without penalty.
     
As always the night drop box at the rear door of Town Hall is also available for tax payments (checks only). PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE TAX DEPOSITORY DROP BOX LOCATED BEHIND TOWN HALL WILL BE EMPTIED AND LOCKED AT MIDNIGHT ON FEBRUARY 15th, FEBRUARY 29th, MARCH 15th, APRIL 2, AND APRIL 16th, 2012. THE BOX WILL REOPEN AT 9:00 A.M. THE FOLLOWING MORNING.  THE LAST DAY TO PAY TOWN AND COUNTY TAXES AT TOWN HALL WILL BE JUNE 30th, 2012.  

THIS POLICY WILL CONTINUE FOR ALL FUTURE TAX COLLECTIONS.
