Dog License Information
PROCEDURE FOR LICENSING YOUR DOG
Apply for dog license at the Cheektowaga Town Clerk's Office, in Town Hall, Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. For dogs residing in the Town of Cheektowaga and the Village of Sloan. See Document Center on righthand side for license form.
Owners of guide, hearing, police work, or service dogs must provide proof of such and the license is free.
RENEWAL FOR LICENSING YOUR DOG
New York State requires dogs to be licensed at 4 months
Your dog's license is renewable upon receipt of the renewal application which is sent to you directly from the State. If you fail to purchase your dog's license within the month it is due, you will receive a notice to purchase it within 10 days. Failure to respond to the notice will result in a violation letter, which includes a fee of $10.00 plus the cost of the dog license. Failure to respond to the violation letter will result in a second violation, which includes a fee of $25.00 plus the cost of the dog license. After 10 working days, if there is still no response to the violation notices, an Appearance Ticket will be issued which includes a fee of $35.00 plus the cost of the dog license. The Dog Control Officer has the authority to proceed further in Court if the dog owner fails to respond to all of the preceding notices.
Documemtation required includes:
- current rabies certificate
- spaying or neutering certificate (if applicable)
Fee $13.50 Spayed female / Neutered male
$20.50 Unspayed female / Unneutered male
$8.50 senior owner (65 years or older) spayed / neutered
$15.50 senior owner (65 years or older) unspayed / unneutered
If applicable, proof of exemption status (guide dog, etc.)
